India asks international community to pressurise Pak to rein in terror groups
New Delhi, Oct 7 (ANI): India has urged International community to put effective pressure on Pakistan to rein in terrorist networks operating from its soil.
Speaking at the seminar titled "Peace and Stability in Afghanistan: The Way Ahead", Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said: The International community should put effective pressure on Pakistan to implement its stated commitment to deal with terrorist groups within its territory."
The Foreign Secretary named militant organisations like Al Qeeda, Taliban Quetta Shura, Hizb-e-Islami, Lashkar-e-Toiba and other like-minded terrorist groups that operating from Pakistan.
She further said: "Without taking action against these groups the gains made in Afghanistan in the past eight years will be compromised and it will become difficult to forestall the restoration of status quo ante to a situation similar to what prevailed prior to September 2001."
In an apparent reference to NATO and US proposal to reconcile with the Taliban, Rao cautioned the international to community to not strike faustain bargains with terrorists as such forces could turn their head against forces who sustain them in the past.
However, India came out in support of reconciliation with those militants who are willing to abjure violence and work within the parameters of the Afghan Constitution, which provides framework for pluralistic and democratic society.
However in her concluding remarks, the Foreign Secretary said that integration should go hand in hand with the shutting down of support. By Naveen Kapoor(ANI)
