Congress hopes to garner votes with promise of subsidised grains for poor

Chandigarh, Oct 1 (ANI): Congress Party in Haryana promised food grains for the poor at cheap rates and better governance in its manifesto for the October 13 assembly elections.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Congress general secretary in-charge for Haryana affairs Prithviraj Chavan released the party's election manifesto here on Wednesday.

"As per Congress's manifesto and UPA government's principles we will provide one kilo of food grains for the poor at just Rupees three," said Hooda.

Prithviraj Chavan said that agriculture would be given impetus and also a water resource authority would be set up.

"We will set up an agricultural committee. Will encourage dairy. We are also planning to start a water resource authority for Haryana's development. We will give impetus to e-governance and technology that will strengthen the administration," he added.

The single-phased elections will be held for 90 assembly seats in Haryana on October 13.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-Indian National Lok Dal alliance had swept the 1999 assembly polls in Haryana. But in the 2005 elections, the Congress came back strongly to wrest power. (ANI)
