'IBM behind the failure of UK security project'
New York, Sep 29: According to a report, the British Intelligence's project aimed at bolstering communication between various agencies failed as IBM was unable to meet the deadlines and security concerns.
IBM the main commercial supplier in the second phase of the SCOPE project, whose 'failure to meet key contractual milestones' led to the Cabinet Office scrapping the project after years of development, says a report in The Register.
Along with scrapping the project the Cabinet Office also had to write off 24.4 million pounds after the UK Intelligence and Security Committee presented to Parliament, that phase 2 of the SCOPE program had been abandoned after being delayed many times.
The second phase of the SCOPE project was initiated with a goal to strengthen the collaboration among the branches of British intelligence including MI5 Security Service, MI6 Secret Intelligence Service, the Government Communications Headquarters, and the Foreign Office.
