Dussera revelries revive after 20 years in Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 29 (ANI): Hindus and Muslims in Kashmir rubbed shoulders and joined hands in celebrating the festival of Dussera on Monday.
They together burnt the effigies mythological demons of Ravana his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnad and made it a memorable occasion since the revelries of Dussera were witnessed in the Kashmir valley after nearly two decades.
This event has raised hopes of brotherhood and normalcy in the state.
The celebrations in Srinagar was hosted by the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) an organisation of Kashmiri Pandits.
Hundreds of Hindus and Muslims gathered at the ground to witness the burning of the effigies, marking the victory of good over evil.
"This is such a happy occasion that this would cerate history. A few days back Eid prayers were offered at this ground and today the decision of truth and false is also been taken here by burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad. There are possibilities that once again we cane stay here with togetherness, with love and affection," said Mohammed Sultan, a Kashmiri Muslim.
Roshan Lal Bali, General Secretary, Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS), said this festival would definitely help in restoring peace and harmony in the region.
"I am so happy that I cannot even explain. After 20 or 22 years we are celebrating this festival. And this festival is being celebrated in the entire country with equal enthusiasm," he added. (ANI)
