Manmohan turns 77, rededicates himself to Indians
Pittsburgh, Sep 26: Dedicating his success to the people of the country on his 77th birthday, Manmohan Singh said that he could never repay this debt.
"I am grateful to the people of India that they have given me the unique opportunity to serve them. I complete the first five years, they have given me the opportunity, they have renewed their confidence in me. This is something, I think is a debt, which I never repay," Dr Singh said during a press conference.
A correspondent reportedly reminded Manmohan Singh of his birthday, while he was addressing a press conference after the G20 summit at Pittsburg, and wished him.
"The only way I can make an effort to repay is to rededicate myself to the service of the people of India for the rest of my life," the Prime Minister said on Saturday, Sep 26.
Born on September 26, 1932 at Gah in Punjab, Manmohan Singh became the first PM of India to retain his position for second consecutive term since Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister.
