Clinton to inaugurate world Kannada conference

Bangalore, Aug 24: Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) has announced that the sixth World Kannada Convention is all set to take place between Sep 3 and Sep 5, 2010 in Edison, New Jersey, US. The event will be hosted, organized and coordinated by Brindavana Kannada Koota which represents the state of New Jersey.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Monday, AKKA President, Mr Ravi Dankanikote said that, the convention that is going to be inaugurated by the former US president, Bill Clinton, will be the biggest AKKA convention till date.

Stating that it is the most ambitious Karnataka related event ever conducted outside the state, Mr Dankanikote said the convention will be the largest procession of Kannadigas ever in US with representation from Europe, Middle East, and Australia.

Apart from this, the convention will see other landmark events such as the launch of federation of world Kannada Kootas, establishment of 'AKKA Sahaaya Portal' aimed at helping the NRIs planning on returning and settling in Karnataka, establishment of a student exchange program with US universities for the benefit of the students from rural Karnataka and the graduation of first batch of students from the 'Sagarothara Kannada Kalike' program.

AKKA also has plans to initiate steps for signing of MOU, in relation with green technology, bio technology and agriculture, between Karnataka government and three major Multi-National companies; and a huge blood donation camp that aims at donating 5000 bottles of blood to the American Red Cross Society.

The 'ambitious' convention also makes space for the finale of the first ever AKKA Cricket Premier Leagure, Kannada based laser light show and fireworks.

The organizers are searching for the right brand ambassador for the event. Mr Madhu Rangaiah, Mr Prasanna Kumar and Mr Shankar Shetty have been appointed as conveners of world Kannada convention. Mr. Amarnath Gowda, the chairman of AKKA trust was present in the news conference.
