Modi govt bans Jaswant's book on Jinnah
Ahmedabad, Aug 20: Just hours after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expelled Jaswant Singh over his book, Narendra Modi government went ahead and banned the book titled ' Jinnah: India Partition Independence' claiming that the book questions Sardar Patel's patriotic spirit.
Gujarat government spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas said that sale and import of the book had been banned with immediate effect across the state and a notification to this effect has already been issued.
A statement issued by the state government reads, "Jaswant Singh"s book questions the role of Sardar Patel during the Partition of India as well as his patriotic spirit. This is an attempt to tarnish the image of Patel."
The senior leader of BJP, Jaswant Singh released his book on Monday, Aug 17 which apparently praises Pakistan's founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah and blames Indian leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhai Patel for the Indo-Pak partition.
BJP sacked Singh over the book citing that the statements he has made on Jinnah are against the party's ideology.
