Internal Security: PC asks states to stay vigilant

New Delhi, Aug 17: Speaking to state Chief Ministers on the Internal security concerns in New Delhi, Home Minister P Chidambaram pointed out that it is of utmost importance that India stays vigilant of the internal security threats.

The Chief Ministers were expected to meet the Prime Minister on drought and internal security on Monday, Aug 17, The Home Minister held a separate session with Chief Ministers on Naxalite issues.

According to the latest media reports, the Home Minister also said that the Centre will encourage the state governments to talk to the Naxals on the condition that they abjure violence. He also reminded the state leaders "we can't lower our guards" yet.

This comes after the rise in naxalism and other terrorist activities in the country.

The seven state Chief Ministers are expected to submit Action Taken Reports (ATRs) on steps to strengthen security and intelligence agencies when they had last met on Jan 6-7.
