Accused in Buddha Jayanti park rape case convicted

New Delhi, Aug 17: A Delhi court on Monday, Aug 17 convicted all the four accused in the sensational 2003 Buddha Jayanti Park gang rape case.

The convicted men are members of the Presidential bodyguards. The quantum of sentence will be heard on Aug 22.

Additional Sessions Judge SK Sarvaria on Monday, Aug 17 held two of the accused, namely Harpreet and Satendra, guilty of gang rape, kidnap and robbery.

The other two convicts, Kuldeep and Manish were found guilty of abduction and robbery.

The 17-year-old victim who was a student of Delhi University was raped by Harpreet and Satyender while the other two convicted Kuldeep and Manish kept guard, the prosecution said.

The girl who went to the park near Rashtrapati Bhavan on Oct 6, 2003 was with her friend Ashish.

The four men first roughed up the victim's friend and then took the girl to a secluded place in the park where they raped her.
