President, PM greet nation on occasion of Raksha Bandhan
New Delhi, Aug 4 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today greeted the nation ahead of Raksha Bandhan, which will be celebrated tomorrow.
In her message, President Patil said: "On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, which symbolizes love, affection and mutual trust between siblings, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all."
"May this unique festival strengthen fraternal feelings and the spirit of oneness in our society as we work collectively for the well-being of our people," the President added.
In his separate message, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said: "The festival of Raksha Bandhan reinforces the sanctity of our traditional familial ties. It provides an opportunity to bridge differences and strengthen the bonds of fraternity and brotherhood."
"May the Festival bring joy to all," the Prime Minister added.
A Rakhi is the symbolic holy thread, which a sister ties ceremoniously on the wrist of her brother.
The brother pledges to protect his sisters honour and offers some cash or other gifts to her.
It is a festive occasion that falls on the full moon day and is celebrated by Hindus, throughout the country. (ANI)
