SC to Gujarat Govt: Why was Sohrabuddin case not entrusted to SIT
New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): The Supreme Court asked the Gujarat Government on Monday as to why the Sohrabuddin Sheikh alleged fake encounter case not be entrusted to the Special Investigations Team (SIT).
The SIT headed by former Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) R. K. Raghavan is investigating the post Godhra riots.
The apex court has also directed the Modi Government to specify an interim compensation for Sohrabuddin's brother Rubabuddin Sheikh.
A special bench of justices Tarun Chatterji and Aftab Alam refrained from fixing the amount of compensation after senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi, who was appearing for Gujarat State, requested that the quantum may be left to the decision of the state government.
Sohrabuddin was shot dead by the Gujarat police on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in November 2005. It was alleged that his wife Kausar Bi and another witnesses Tulsiram Prajapati were also killed by the police to destroy evidence. (ANI)
