Prohibition law made stern in Gujarat
Ahmedabad, July 28 (ANI): Gujarat assembly on Tuesday introduced, Bombay Prohibition (Gujarat Amendment) Bill 2009, proposing stern punishment upto death penalty to deal with illicit liquor trade.
The Bill was passed with a majority vote in the House.
Introducing the Bill, Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah, said, "We have taken a historic step to pass such a bill in the current session of the Assembly to control illicit liquor tragedy."
The amendment would include stringent action against those who indulge in manufacturing, constructing, selling, buying, and keeping, transporting of spurious liquor.
A new section 65A has been inserted which provides for punishment for manufacturing spurious liquor.llicit liquor, also known as grog or hooch, is a flourishing beverage in India, particularly in states like Gujarat where prohibition is in force.
The illicit liquor is much cheaper as compared to the licensed drinks, which cannot be afforded by most of the people from the poorer sections of society. (ANI)
