Mamata revolts against Land Acquisition Bill
New Delhi, Jul 24: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chief Chief, Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, Jul 23 raised objection to the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill and the Resettlement and Rehabilitation Bill and threatened to walk out.
Mamata opposed the provision in the bill which provides for private developers acquiring 70 pc of the land for a proposed industrial project directly from the farmers and land-owners and the other 30 pc will be acquired by the state government.
She revolted against the bill that was brought by the rural development ministry for discussion, saying that she will not support in Delhi what she has fought against in West Bengal.
She had earlier protested in Nandigram and Singur in West Bengal on the same issue. TMC believes that these bills do not guarantee the rehabilitation and resettlement of the poor farmers.
