SAARC transport ministers to meet in Colombo
New Delhi, July 23 (ANI): The second meeting of the transport ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries will be held in Colombo on July 25.
It is expected that a comprehensive approach by the member States to enhance transportation links within the region would be evolved in the ensuing meeting.
A delegation led by Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways RPN Singh would represent India.
The first meeting of SAARC transport ministers was held in New Delhi on August 8 2007. The member countries have recommended prioritization of certain road, rail, shipping and aviation corridors to strengthen the connectivity within the region as identified in the SAARC Regional Multimodal Transport Study.
It is expected that the meeting will carry forward the recommendations of the first meeting and may impress upon the member States to take measures to implement these projects on a priority basis. (ANI)
