Women BSF battalion to man Indian borders

Jammu, Jul 18: India will soon see country's first ever women BSF Battalion manning the borders.

While announcing that the Border Security Force will see an increase in numbers by 35,000 personnel, Director General of BSF M L Kumawat said that this will include the first women BSF battalion.

The women battalion will be deployed fro frisking, checking and seizures. The force that will also be deployed for night patrolling will primarily help with reducing narcotics smuggling, women child trafficking and trans-border crimes.

Addressing a press conference, Kumawat said that including the woman battalion, the new BSF troopers will be deployed by Jul 25.

Even though there is increased danger, it is the 'strong vigil' that has helped security the border, he added.
