Amethi, Jul 17: Speaking at Amethi, the Congress General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi took the chance to slam the state's Chief Minister Mayawati.

Referring to Mayawati's statue spree, Rahul Gandhi said that the state has 'place for statues, not people'. And alleged that this is why the state was ignoring important issues like the power crises.

He said that the state needs Congress for progress and development.

The power crisis which had caused protests and violence in the past few days was the main reason behind the visit but due to the Rita Bahuguna issue, the political backdrop changed.

Rahul Gandhi is on a full day visit to Uttar Pradesh and will be speaking at a total of five meetings.
