JK govt admits police hand in Shopian case

Srinagar, Jul 10: Jammu Kashmir government accepted that police had a hand in the rape and murder of two women in Shopian town in May.

The state government first said that the a 17-year-old girl and her 22-year-old sister-in-law would have been drowned since they were found dead in a stream on May 30.

The state finance minister Abdul Rahim told in a press conference in a Srinagar that a judicial probe had implicated the state police had a hand in the murders. And also said a complaint had been filed against four officials for destruction of evidence in the deaths.

The state government urged people in the state to remain calm and assured them those found guilty of the murders won"t be spared.
