Rajya Sabha: Opposition angry over Fuel price hike
New Delhi, Jul 2: Even as the common man is trying to re-think his budget around the newly announced fuel price hike, the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Jul 2 witnessed a walk out by the opposition who called the decision 'totally unwarranted'.
Calling the decision taken by the UPA government a mockery of the democracy, the opposition demanded for an immediate roll back. When met with Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan's rejection to the demand, members belonging to BJP, CPI(M), AIADMK and SP staged a walkout.
Immediately after the Petroleum Minister, Murli Deora announced the hike in petrol and diesel prices on Wednesday, Jul 1, Bharatiya Janata Party took a swipe at the government calling this move a 'noble thanksgiving to the Indian people'.
Taking the same tone on the decision, the Communist party of Indian (Marxist) said that the measure was 'the cruel first gift' from the new government which it said has shown 'contempt' to the parliament by doing this.
