New Delhi, Jun 30: Just as the country started taking hope in the probability of the government repealing the law that criminalises homosexuality, the government backtracked saying that this was not promised and that earlier statements that hinted at the government favoring the move have been misinterpreted.

Answering a question on the issue, Law minister Veerappa Moily said, "I have never said it will be repealed....the statement was misinterpreted. As far as Section 377 of IPC is concerned, I have said I have not examined it yet."

While the gay community and gay rights activists want the government to do away with the IPC Section 377, some Muslim and Christian groups have raised thei opposition to the move. Responding to these concerns Moily said, that the government will not make such a decision in a hurry.
