PC asks Christian riot victims to start afresh

Khandamal, Jun 26: The Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram, who is currently in Khandamal to greet the victims of the riots that was triggered off due to the death of the VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati in Aug 2008, reportedly apologised to the 2000 victims who are housed in the relief camps since the incident.

"I am sorry that certain things happened last year and you have been brought to these camps. But you must go back to your villages. I am here to tell you, don't fear," he said while he was in one of the relief camp in in Phulbani.

Severely criticising the even, the Home Minister asked the victims to start life afresh, to build churches, to practice their religion. When some of the victims expressed their fear of RSS and Bajrang Dal, Chidambaram assured them saying, "All those who have indulged in this ghastly crime will be prosecuted and punished."
