Pokhriyal Nishank elected new Uttarakhand CM

New Delhi, Jun 24: Uttarakhand's Health Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is reportedly going to replace the former Chief Minister BC Khanduri.

The Uttarakhand BJP legislative party which met on Wednesday, Jun 24 in the national capital chose Nishank as state"s next Chief Minister.

The 51-year old journalist turned politician was elected unanimously in the meeting that was attended by Senior party leaders M Venkaiah Naidu and Thawar Chand Gehlot as central observers. Apart from this, the meeting saw the presence of dissident leader BS Koshiyari and state unit president Bachchi Singh Rawat.

Nishank who is seen as a strong leader from Garhwal is also known to be close to the RSS.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asked Khanduri to resign on Tuesday, Jun 23 following the loss of five Lok Sabha seats in the hill state. He later submitted his resignation to Rajnath Singh who accepted it.
