Surat police nab 3 accused in gang rape case

Ahmedabad, Jun 13: Within hours of the crime, the Surat police successfully arrested the three accused in the gang rape case reported from Surat on Friday, Jun 12.

The two of the accused happen to be sons of police personnel, one posted in Surat itself and other recently transferred to Banaskantha district in north Gujarat, Surat Police Commissioner, Deepak Swaroop said.

The 17-year old victim was on her way to tuition classes accompanied by her boyfriend, when the three accused introduced themselves as policemen and told the duo that they would have to be taken to the police station for indecency in the public.

The girl and her boyfriend were later forced into a car. The three accused tied the boy to a tree and the girl was gang-raped in the car and later abandoned in a mall.

According to CNN-IBN report, two of the three accused were beaten up by an angry crowd of civilians in a hospital in the city where they had been taken for medical examination.
