Bangalore, Jun 12: India's second largest software-services provider, Infosys will reportedly be hiring more Americans in the next 12 to 18 months.
Infy has announced that it will be adding about 1,000 Americans to its rolls, and increase the headcount in US from 10,500 to 11,500. The company revealed that the new recruits will be laterals or experienced workers from IT and consulting backgrounds and they will be serving US customers.
Till the last fiscal that ended Mar 31, 2009 the company had 800 American employees, which will now be increased to 1,800.
Of the 10,500 employees the company has in the US now, 8,200 are H1-B visa holders, while 1,500 are L1 visa holders. And the company's move not to send anymore H1-B visa holders is being seen in the context of the anti-outsourcing sentiment of the United States in the recent times.
Analysts are also considering, Infy's move and the similar moves from other firms like Wipro in the background of the 'protectionist' stance of the US government.
