Ex-manager hacks Mysore professor to death

Mysore, Jun 11: S Puttanna, the office manager of Sarada Villas Pharmacy College of Mysore on Wednesday, Jun 11 allegedly slashed the throat of a professor, leaving her to bleed to death inside the college staff room.

The victim, Chandralekha Gurjar (54), was the Vice-Principal of the college. She is survived by her husband, Jagadish Gurjar, an LIC agent, and a daughter.

The accused Puttanna, was a former bank officer, who opted for VRS. Prof. Chandralekha joined the college two years ago and was quiet popular among the students. The reason for the murder was not clear. However Puttanna claimed that he was a victim of caste atrocity and humiliation and had been frequently admonished by Prof. Gurjar, who asked him to leave his job on Tuesday, Jun 9.

Reports suggest that Prof. Chandralekha had asked Puttanna to hand over the charge of office to new person appointed in his place. But he refused and said that he would do so only on Wednesday, Jun 10. Puttanna on Wednesday, went to Principal's room and bid him farewell. Later he entered the staff room where Prof. Chandrelekha was alone and attacked her. Puttanna then walked back to Principal's room and admitted his crime.

Though the office staff tried to rush the Professor to hospital she died before the ambulance came. Puttanna is under police custody and a case was registered against him.
