Ragging: MCA student commits suicide in Warangal

Warangal, Jun 9: D Devender Kumar, a second year MCA student committed suicide after he was allegedly ragged by his seniors in the college. His body was found on the railway tracks at Dharmaram in Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

Kumar who hailed from Choppadandi village in Karimnagar district, was a student of Vasavi engineering college in Ibrahimbagh in Hyderabad. Devender's parents alleged that their son committed suicide as he was harassed by seniors in the college. "Though we had lodged complaints with the college many times, the management has failed to take any action against the erring students," said, Sankaraiah, Kumar's father.

Devender's relatives said that even after completing first year, the seniors continued to harass him. On Sunday, Jun 7 Devender reportedly reached Warangal railway station, purchased a platform ticket and started walking towards Dharmaram on railway tracks when a train mowed him down.

Kumar's parents are demanding action against the Vasavi College management for their negligence and indifferent attitude towards ragging, which claimed their son's life.
