Union Budget in first week of July: Pranab
New Delhi, May 26: Pranab Mukherjee, India's newly elected Finance Minister said that Union Budget for 2009-10 will be presented in the first week of July.
"I would not like to have a second batch of vote on account... the Budget will be presented in the first week of July," he told in an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN news channel. He said that more stimulus packages are needed to revive some of the sectors worse hit by global economic crisis. This would be addressed in the new budget.
The government is required to get the budget passed by Jul 31, the date when the vote on account approved by Parliament allowing government to withdraw money from the Consolidated Fund of India expires. If the budget is not approved before Jul 31, the government will have to seek another 'vote-on-account'.
