Pranab hopes to present Budget in 'due time'
New Delhi, May 24: Pranab Mukherjee, the new Finance Minister of India on Saturday, May 23 said that he hopes to present the 'Union Budget' in 'due time'. Though he did not mention the date, Pranab said that government would go for a vote-on-account.
Government sources said that the Budget will be presented in the first week of Jul and passed before Jul 31. This will obviate the need for another vote-on-account as the government has Parliament's approval to withdrew money from the Consolidated Fund to meed necessary expenditure.
Soon after he was named as the Finance Minister by PM, Manmohan Singh, Mukherjee said to media, "Indian economy is resilient, strong and we shall have to build up and come back to the growth track as early as possible. We will be able to, I hope, present the budget in due time so that uncertainties can be avoided."
