President invites Manmohan Singh to be PM
New Delhi, May 20: Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, May 20 met President Pratibha Patil and staked claim to form the new government. Manmohan Singh said that President had invited him to form the new government. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to happen on May 22.
Prime Minister said that UPA has the support of 322 MPs including the outside support provided by Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), RJD and other allies. He said that Congress, pre-poll allies and independents together had a total number of 274 very well covering the magical number of '272'. SP, BSP and RJD's outside support added 48 more MPs support to UPA.
