Girl dies after teacher hits her head with duster

Burdwan, May 15: A class V girl in West Bengal allegedly passed away after her class teacher hit her on the head with a duster as she failed to write the national anthem, the police said.

The 11 year old Babli Ghosh of Andal Girls' High School, fell unconscious after suffering a strike on her head with the duster lashed out by her teacher, Rekha Bhagat, on Thursday, May 14, and died on the way to hospital.

"Following demands by guardians that the class teacher be arrested, the managing committee has decided to keep the school closed till the teacher is arrested, head mistress Tapati Bhattacharya said.

She added that the school will be closed untill the teacher is arrested and informed that the accused did not turn up on Friday, May 15.

Babli's family has lodged a complaint with the Andal police.
