Youth hurls shoe at Manmohan Singh in Gujarat
Ahmedabad, Apr 26: Hitesh Chauhan, an engineering student attempted to fling a shoe at Manmohan Singh, the Indian Prime Minister as he entered the Tagore Hall in Paldi locality of Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Sunday, Apr 26 to address an election rally.
The PM is the latest victim of 'shoe attack.' First a journalist Jarnail Singh hurled shoe at Union Home Minister P Chidambaram after he refused answer his question on 1984 anti-Sikh riots. This was following by incidents of 'shoecide' on Congress MP Naveen Jindal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate LK Advani.
The shoe did not hit the prime minister. 21-year-old Hitesh who is said to have no political links, was whisked away by the police for questioning. However PM forgived the student and asked the police not to register a case against Hitesh. Meanwhile Congress party has demanded an apology from the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi citing the shoe throwing incident is a 'publicity stunt.'
