Court appoints new lawyer to defend Kasav

Mumbai, Apr 16: The court on Thursday, Apr 16 appointed a new lawyer to defend Ajmal Kasav. The court has chosen Abbas Kazmi, a private lawyer who is not part of the legal aid.

Abbas Kazmi has been introduced to Kasav, the terror suspect who is yet to be tried for the Mumbai terror attacks 2008. Abbas Kazmi is a member of the Sessions Bar Council and is a well known name in the legal circle.

The court has declared that the trial will resume on Friday, Apr 17.

On Wednesday, Anjali Waghmare the former lawyer who was appointed by the state to defend Kasav was removed from the case by the court citing 'professional misconduct'. This was because she had taken up a case of a victim of the terror attacks which would cause a conflict of interest with respect to the present case.
