Coimbatore, Apr 12: A 19-year-old boy was brutally ragged by his seniors which left him nearly blind in a Coimbatore college in Mar. Akhil Dev, son of a noted script writer in Malayalam film industry, Sunil Parameshwaran, alleges his seniors at the PSG College of Arts and Science punched him in the eyes and hit him on his head with a steel chair on Mar 7.

He was reportedly beaten up after he refused to pay the seniors money for the second time after giving them 3,000. Doctors who are treating the 19-year-old management student said that he has nine holes in his retinas and may lose his eyesight by the time he turns 25.

The college, which first refused to take any action against the culprits, even tried to settle issue by offering money to the victims parents. However later when the issue came to light, and Nikhil's launched a complaint the college suspended five students.

In Feb this year, taking serious note of an alarming rise in incidents of ragging in educational institutions across the country, the Supreme Court accepted the recommendations of the KR Raghavan Committee to curb the menace. However the issue still remain large.
