Fernandes flips again; becomes 'Independent'

Muzaffarpur, Apr 2: George Fernandes, the veteran socialist leader filed nomination papers from Muzaffarpur constituency as an 'Independent' candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. This came just a day after the senior politician had said that he will not contest as an 'Independent'.

Janata Dal (United), the party he started, has denied him a ticket to contest, citing his ill health. The 9-time MP has represented earlier Maharashtra's and Bihar's Nalanda and Muzaffarpur constituencies as a candidate of one party or another. Fernandes submitted two sets of nomination papers to Returning Officer (RO) of Muzaffarpur and additional collector Prahlad Thakur.

Keeping in view of his inability to cover the 500-ft distance from the main gate of the collectorate compound to the RO office by walking, his vehicle was allowed inside.
