UP police files FIR against Varun Gandhi

Party (Lucknow, Mar 29: Uttar Pradesh police filed an FIR against Varun Gandhi and 2 other Bharatiya JanataBJP) leaders for the violence outside the jail in Pilibhit when the BJP candidate was arrested.

On Saturday, Mar 8, BJP supporters reportedly attacked the officials and damaged the police vehicles when Varun was arrested from Pilibhit court. Cases were filed against Varun Gandhi, senior leader Kalraj Mishra and former legislator B K Gupta in the Kotwali police station of Pilibhit, which is around 350 km from here. Varun Gandhi is charged with attempt to murder, rioting and disobedience.

Superintendent of Police Prakash D said, "While Varun Gandhi has been booked under Section 144 (unlawful assembly) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Mishra and Gupta have been booked under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code."

District Magistrate also rejected the allegations by Menaka Gandhi that a Muslim policeman was behing Pilibhit firing during Varun's arrest and said that 'Parvez Mian' was not on duty Saturday, Mar 28.
