2002 Guj riots: HC cancels Maya Kodnani's bail
Ahmedabad, Mar 27: Giving a jolt to the Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government the Gujarat High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail of absconding minister Maya Kodnani in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riot cases.
High Court rejected the defence counsel's plea to stay the judgement for a period of 6 weeks against the Gujarat Welfare minister. HC also denied bail to Jaydeep Patel, the co-accused VHP leader. Maya Kodnani is accused in Naroda Patiya and Naroda Gam riots.
A Special Investigation Team appointed by the Supreme Court to re-investigate 9 riot cases, challenged the anticipatory bails granted to Maya Kodnani and Jaydeep Patel by a lower court and wanted to arrest Kodnani in Naroda Patiya case.
