India's wheat production estimated to surpass record 78 million tones

New Delhi, Mar 25 (ANI): The country is going to witness record production of wheat consecutively for the second year with output estimated to surpass 78 million tonnes.

Last year, 78.57 million tonnes of wheat was produced, which was the highest ever in the history of India.

Talking to AIR, Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, T.Nand Kumar said, pulses particularly the gram production will also increase this year by at least a million tonnes than the last fiscal. Last year, 14.76 million tonnes of pulses produced.

Kumar said production of oilseeds particularly mustard is also going to witness a jump from the last year's output of 29.75 million tonnes.

He said, due to climatic variations in January, some concerns were raised about the Rabi crop outputs, but the state governments and farmers have taken the pro-active measures to rectify the same. (ANI)
