Indian Inflation falls to zero percent
New Delhi, Mar 19: India's inflation dropped to a historic low of 0.44 per cent for the week ended Mar 7 against 2.43 per cent from the previous week according to the government data released on Thursday, Mar 19.
It is well below the forecast made by financial experts. This is the lowest inflation rate since the annual numbers in the current index started in Apr 1995. The previous low was of 1.13 pc on Feb 2, 2002.
In 2008 the annual inflation rate was 7.78 per cent during the corresponding week.
Among food products, gram turned cheaper by 5 per cent, tea and fruits and vegetables by 3 per cent each. But the prices of moong and sea fish moved up by 2 per cent each.
In fuel, power light and lubricants category, prices of jet fuel and electricity for agriculture fell by 8 per cent each, light diesel oil by 7 per cent.
However, naphtha and furnace oil and electricity for domestic consumption turned expensive.
