Upset Jaitley may skip party meet on Mar 17

New Delhi, Mar 17: The rift over the choice of businessman Sudhangshu Mittal as BJP's co-convenor of the North-East region might affect the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) meting to be held on Tuesday, Mar 17.

The Monday, Mar 16 evening meeting between BJP President Rajnath Singh and the party"s prime ministerial nominee Lal Krishna Advani failed to resolve the differences between the former and party general secretary Arun Jaitley.

Although Jaitley boycotted the last meeting of the party"s central election committee and has indicated that he will not attend a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Mar 17. He has threatened to boycott all crucial meetings unless Mittal's appointment is reversed.

Businessman Sudhangshu Mittal, whose nomination as co-convenor for the North-East by the BJP president led to the stalemate, attended a meeting at the BJP office to select candidates for Assam. Jaitley has been demanding Mittal"s removal.

If Arun Jaitely fails to attend Tuesday, Mar 17 meeting, the central election committe might get disbanded. And the party may authorise Advani and Rajnath Singh to select the 100 and odd candidates yet to be decided.
