45 militants lay down arms in Assam

Guwahati, Mar 6 (ANI): Forty-five cadres of various militant groups from northeast recently laid down their arms in Assam's Kamrup District.

They included 32 cadres of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) along with 13 other cadres from the Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) and the Peoples Revolutionary Front of Meghalaya laid down their arms before the Army.he surrendered militants have expressed a desire to live a peaceful life and end destructive activities.I want to live in peace. I don't want to harm people anymore. So I came back," said Sadam Hussain , a surrendered ULFA militant.

Gopal Sharma, another surrendered KNLF militant said: "We don't want to do mindless activities anymore. We want to lead a peaceful and normal life. So, I came back"

The surrendered militants gave up various arms and ammunition, including explosives and pistols.

They have realized now that mindless violence only harms their own people and destroys their lives.

The surrender also reflects the fact that the desire to lead a peaceful life and move ahead on the path of development is gaining momentum by the day. Their return to the mainstream of society and the decision give up violence underlines the growing desire for peace in the region. By Peter Alex Todd (ANI)
