2 ULFA militants killed in Jorhat gunbattle

Jorhat, Feb 26: Two suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants were killed on Thursday, Feb 26 morning in a gunfight with a joint police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) team in Assam's Majuli Island.

"Acting on a tip-off, the security forces launched an operation. The ULFA militants exchanged fire with them and they were killed on the spot," Superintendent of police, Jorhat, Dipak Choudhury said.

Seven rebels of the ULFA's elite strike force 28 battalion had come from their Myanmar camps through Nagaland to form a new set of camps in Majuli.

They were carrying arms and had also planned a recruitment drive and extortion to fund the new camps.
