Ukhrul (Manipur), Feb 26: Condemning the killing of three government officials, residents staged a silent protest rally here and demanded punishment for the guilty.

All the education institutions, offices, business establishments, transport and other activities remained closed in Ukhrul district in view of the protest rally organised by all the Tangkhul frontal organisations on Wednesday, Feb 25.

"We feel very bad. This thing should not happen in our area. All of us feel very sorry for the bereaved families," said N Everest Luikham, a member of the Organising Committee.

Scores of people including school and college students joined the protest rally and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families of Th Kishan Singh, A Rajen Sharma and Y Token Singh.

"I think the culprits should be picked and handed over to the public and the State Government so that this kind of crime do not happen in future," said Wormichon, a resident.

Violence had erupted in Imphal as police recovered bodies of three government employees in Senapati district on February 16.

The killings, which sparked widespread resentment, were blamed on the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isaac-Muivah- NSCN- IM) cadres.

However, the NSCN (I-M) has denied any links with the murder of the three government employees.
