Traffic violation fetches Delhi Police Rs 6.99 cr

New Delhi, Feb 25: Traffic violators beware..The Delhi Police have collected a brow raising amount of Rs 6.99 crore from traffic violators in the first 45 days of the year 2009. The 'intensive challaning' drive that put more vigorous policemen on the roads collected crores of penalty from wrong doers till Feb 15.

Around 6 lakh challans were issued by the police this year which included cases against red light jumping, improper parking and drunken driving.

"Our emphasis is on quality prosecution and not on quantity. Now the priority is accorded to quality enforcement," an official said.

Last year, the official said, police had collected Rs 86.52 crore through traffic challans.
