Government to issue multipurpose identity cards:Chidambaram
New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Union Home Minister P Chidambaram declared in the Lok Sabha, on Tuesday, that the government will issue multipurpose identity cards to all citizens as check against illegal migration into India.
Chidambaram claimed that the process of preparing a register of national population is on and it is likely to be completed by 2010-11.
He further asserted that the security forces are maintaining a strict vigil is being maintained on the India - Bangladesh border to check illegal migration.
Chidambaram said that despite the adequate amount of forces deployed on the border, the government plans to send more as a few problems like difficult terrains has made catching of outside entry in India extremely difficult.
He assured that the government is aware of the cross border infiltration from Bangladesh and has adopted to a multi-pronged approach to curb it. (ANI)
