Jaipur, Feb 18: Vasundhara Raje, the former Rajasthan Chief Minister is caught in a new controversy. Atleast 7 telecom providers including BSNL has informed the present government that Raje had asked them to tap phones, specially of her colleagues and in majority of the cases no written orders were issued.

Phones of former Minister Kirori Lal Meena, former BJP MLA Surendra Singh Rathore, Gujjar leaders and former BJP MLAs Prahlad Gunjal and Attar Singh Bhadhana were tapped. According to the Indian Telegraph Act, phone calls can be tapped under special circumstance, that too only with written orders from the state Home Secretary. If not an IG official can issue an interim order which must then be followed by an order from the Home Secretary within 3 days.

But in many cases a DIG rank official had issued verbal orders only in place of written orders from state Home Secretary. The present Ashok Gehlot government has ordered a probe into the incident. Many higher rank police officials are under scanner.
