Twenty injured as train collides with engine in Bihar
Sugauli, Feb 14 (ANI): Atleast 20 passengers were injured in a train accident at Sugauli Junction on Narkatiyaganj-Muzaffarpur rail section of East Central Railway in Bihar on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 5:30 am when Bettiya-Muzaffarpur passenger train, which was about to halt, collided with the engine of Raxaul-Sugauli passenger train at the Sugauli railway station.
Engines of both the trains were derailed after the accident.
The injured have been admitted to local hospitals.
A statutory inquiry by the commissioner of railway safety is likely to be instituted to look into the cause of the accident and fix accountability.
The accident came barely after 14 bogies of Coromandel Express train derailed at Jaipur railway station in Orissa on Friday evening leaving atleast 17 persons dead and over 160 injured.
Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has announced a compensation of five lakh rupees and a job for the next of the kin of those killed in the Orrisa accident. He had also declared Rs. 50,000 for the seriously injured and Rs. 10,000 for those with minor injuries. (ANI)
