Orissa tribals take out a march to protect job quotas
Bolangir (Orissa), Feb 11 (ANI): Hundreds of tribals in Orissa's Bolangir District participated in a protest march against what they claimed that around 10,000 non-tribals have managed to obtain fake caste certificates to enjoy job and education quotas.
Officials said a time-bound inquiry has been ordered into the reservation issue.
"I have discussed with the tribals leaders of Bolangir. Their main demand was to expedite inquiry into the forgery caste certificate cases. We have discussed that with every inspector of Bolagir police district and they will be given a target to complete at least three inquires in one month and should submit the inquiry reports to the state level vigilance cell. After that on the basis of inquiry reports, necessary follow up actions will be taken," said P.B. Acharya, Inspector General of Police.
At present, 22.5 per cent of government jobs and places in state-funded educational institutions must be allocated to the 'Scheduled Castes' and tribal groups. (ANI)
