India asks Pakistan to keep word on Mumbai probe
New Delhi, Feb 7 (ANI): Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma on Saturday said that the world community knew the facts behind the Mumbai terror attacks and by stonewalling, Pakistan has lost its credibility.
Sharma told reporters here that Pakistan should adhere to the international law, and reiterated that Pakistan owed an explanation to the international community for allowing banned organisations to function under a changed name.
"It is for Pakistan to honour not only the assurances and commitments it has given to the international community and to India, but Pakistan is a nation state must also respect the international law. The entire world is watching Pakistan and by obfuscating and deflecting Pakistan can only hit its low credibility," he said.
Relations between the two countries have been strained since militants hailing from Pakistan killed 179 people in Mumbai on November 26, 2008.
India blamed the banned Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the attacks on its commercial hub, and said there must have been support from Pakistani security agencies to carry out the carnage.
Earlier this week, Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon had mentioned that Pakistan's main spy agency was linked to planners behind the attack in Mumbai, the first time the government had directly named the organisation in connection with the raids. (ANI)
