Chennai, Feb 2: The thrust of humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka is seen in Tamil Nadu. Students took on streets protesting and the government has ordered the colleges and other educational institutions to be shut. Students are also asked to vacate hostels immediately.

The Puducherry government on Monday, Feb 2 ordered indefinite closure of all government and private colleges in the union territory from Tuesday, Feb 3.

Jayanta Kumar Ray, Director of Collegiate Education, told news agencies the decision was taken in view of the continued agitation by students over Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Precautions are being taken to ensure that the bandh called by pro-tamil parties is not followed through. The government has banned the call for bandh, but parties like Vaiko's MDMK have said that they will go through with the bandh call.
