Lok Sabha to discuss anti-terror bills on Dec 17
New Delhi, Dec 17: Exactly three weeks after the gruesome Mumbai terror attacks, on Wednesday, Dec 17 Lok Sabha will take-up for discussion two new bills that will seek to strengthen legal provisions relating to prevention, investigation, prosecution and punishment of terrorist acts. On Tuesday, Dec 16 both the bills to fight terrorism were tabled.
One of the bills is meant to form a National Investigation Agency (NIA) with special powers and also to amend the existing law for tougher action. The proposed changes include presuming that a terror accused is guilty until proven innocent and doubling the detention period to 180 days. The political hurdles are expected to get cleared out soon.
