New Delhi, Nov 30: Home Minister Shivraj Patil resigned Sunday under a cloud following the Mumbai terrorist massacre, and Finance Minister P Chidamabarm was promptly given additional charge of the ministry, Congress sources said on Sunday, Nov 30.
Who will hold the Finance portfolio is not yet decided. Party sources say Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh could be next to be asked to leave. Shivaraj Patil has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday, Nov 30, taking responsibility of Mumbai blasts. The Finance portfolio will now be looked after by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a spokesperson in the President's Office said. Mr Patil had quit owning moral responsibility for the Mumbai terror attacks that left almost 200 people dead.
Mr Patil's resignation was forwarded by the Prime Minister to the President who is in Indonesia on second leg of a foreign trip that had earlier taken her to Vietnam.
